The History of “Delorean – The Missing Pieces” Documentary Series – Fellow Researchers
By Bob Brandys – Producer
In 2021, I got into contact with Alexx Michaels. He was working on a book about the Delorean and he had acquired thousands of documents from the British National Archive. We talked about what I was doing and he agreed to share all of his declassified documents with me.
Also In 2021, I got into contact with Robert Lamrock. He was a Belfast Television reporter that spent considerable time interviewing John Delorean over a 15 years period. Lamrock also had access to the Irish National Archives and provide me with even more documents.
In 2022, word of the production began to circulate in the Delorean community. This put me in touch with Chris Nickelson, who had developed the most extensive history of the developmental cars. Chris shared his information with me.
All together, I now had over 7,000 declassified documents related to John Delorean’s dealing with the British and Irish governments. Clearly, these were the “missing pieces” to the true Delorean story.
Of course, we had to obtain and read virtually every book, story, article and even a PhD thesis on Delorean. Radek Skalski, from Liquid Logic Films, jumped on board with this project and also started finding and obtaining historical documents relevant to the true Delorean story.
It was obvious from the start that this was going to be a complicated story that had many episodes. The title “Delorean – the Missing Pieces” was clearly appropriate and accurate for this documentary series.
It took almost 9 years before the first drafts of the videos were ready. There were hundreds of visuals required to make the story relatable. It was decided that this was going to be a first person narrative, with the voice of John Delorean telling his true story.
One of the most important pieces was to identify a person who could mimic John Delorean’s voices. Radek knew various voice over actors. We had voice auditions and we chose was Baird Bruster for the role.
The rest is history, as they say. Actually, in this case, this version of history – the true Delorean Story is just starting.
