Film Making
THE HISTORY OF “DELOREAN - THE MISSING PIECES” DOCUMENTARY SERIES - FILM MAKING
By Bob Brandys – Producer
I began my early filming experience was with 8 mm films. Most films of our family vacations. I filmed my model HO scale railroad train. I made a frame by frame movie of the Zapruder film that was shown in Life Magazine. I also made a slow motion movie of mold growing on a petri dish.
While in graduate school, I had the opportunity to help produce a six part documentary series titled “Energy and the City” for the US Environmental Protection Agency. My next major film was working with the Health Industries Manufacturers Association to produce an employee right to know training film.
The next event was joining the Las Vegas Electric Vehicle Association in 2008. There I met the person, who had made the Electric Datsun in Las Vegas, Al Sawyer. I was actually talking to a historical figure in automotive history. I knew that if someone did not make a documentary about Al Sawer and the Electra, he and the cars would be lost to history.
This started my association with Radek Skalski of Liquid Logic Films. Radek was a friend of my son, who was in the film industry, I asked Radek if he would work with me to produce a documentary about Al Sawer and the Electra. We flew to Las Vegas to do the filming and Radek put together an amazing film that has been seen by thousands of people.
But we did not stop there. We also decided to do a documentary about the Electric AMC Pacers. We flew to Denton Texas to get footage of an actual car. This film has also been seen by thousands of people.
The next serendipitous event was becoming a Delorean owner and reading about the Electric Delorean built by Carl Tilley. After contacting Tilley, not only were we able to produce another documentary about the Electric Delorean, we also bought the car from Tilley.
My next venture into film production was a scientific documentary about titled “Mutant Mold in Outer Space!” It dealt with mutant mold and bacteria that grew on the Mir and the International Space Station.
Over the next 10 years, we authored 5 references books, and gained significance resources at researching historical information.
We continued showing our time machine and stock delorean at car shows, and the vitriol about John Delorean only got worse. Clearly, there was more and more disinformation being circulated in the media, and people were just believing the lies. Someone had to start telling the true story.
The next generation of Delorean owners was evolving and their main reference is information on the internet. What this meant was that if one was to tell the true Delorean story, it could not be a book. It had to be a video documentary. So in 2012, I decided that one of my legacies would be to tell the true Delorean story in a video documentary.
